Realtime updates on the visibility of the Northern Lights

AuroraWatch is a website that provides a realtime monitor of geomagnetic activity in the Edmonton area and offers a free email alert service to let you know if there may be aurora visible tonight.

AuroraWatch offers two alert levels:

  • Yellow is issued when there is more than a 50% probability of auroral displays
  • Red is issued when there is more than a 70% probability of auroral displays

CaNoRock

Student sounding rocket exchange program

The Canada-Norway Student Sounding Rocket (CaNoRock) exchange program is a partnership between the Universities of Alberta, Calgary and Saskatchewan, the University of Oslo and the Andoya Rocket Range in Norway.

Undergraduate students spend a week (fully funded by the CSA and TLEF) on site at the Andoya Rocket Range, gaining hands-on experience in sounding rocket and payload instrument design. You can earn course credit for completing the programme.

    ISSET Space Academy

    For students in Grades 3-9 who love space

    During our five-day program, Space Academy Trainees explore the many areas of space with real space scientists.  Trainees design and launch model rockets, make galaxies, build interactive robots, experience virtual reality, simulate working at mission control and take pictures of earth by sending a camera 30km into the atmosphere on a weather balloon.
